Custom Animal Portraits

 A portrait or illustration of your pet or favorite animal is a wonderful way to personalize your home or workspace. I offer portraits in either pastels, colored pencils, or charcoal. While I specialize in exotic pets, I also love drawing your furry friends!

All of my drawings are hand drawn with professional-grade pastels, colored pencils, or charcoal. Sizing options range from 8×10 to 12×16 and include a blurred out of focus background

 

I work from photographs, so please provide a high-resolution photo when you book your drawing. I rely completely on the reference photo, so the better the photo, the better the drawing. Feel free to send in more than one! I can also combine animals from different photos into one composition. If you’re just looking for a general-purpose illustration, I can find my own reference photos. Before beginning the drawing (either pet portrait or general-purpose illustration) I’ll send you some photo-shopped mock-ups of possible compositions. You choose the one you like. I love working closely with my clients to create the perfect portrait for them.

Photo mistakes to avoid

  • Photos taken with a flash
  • Dark or out of focus photos (dogs across the room etc)
  • Photos taken from above (compositions look best if the photo is eye level with your pet)
  • Photos where you can’t see the eyes (unless you would like a portrait of your pet asleep. This is an adorable option)

Best Photo Tips

  • Take your photos outside if possible. Natural light is the best
  • Take close ups, so the face is clearly visible. If you can see the fur detail, that means there’s enough detail for me to work with
  • Make sure the colors are accurate to your pet. If your cat has an orange coat, but the photo shows it as brown, this will affect the portrait

Most artwork turnaround time is between 4-6 weeks, but can be more, depending on the size and amount of detail. If you would like a more detailed background, we can discuss this as well. Depending on the level of detail in a background, there will be an additional $25 to $75. I will give you an exact quote based on your requests. I’ll also send regular progress updates.

Shipping cost is included with the final price. Portraits will be carefully packaged and shipped by priority mail. I will send you a tracking number when your drawing ships.

Payment

A 30% non refundable deposit is required to book your portrait. After the portrait is complete, I’ll send a photo of it to you for final approval. Final payment is due before shipping the portrait. At the moment, I’m accepting payments through Paypal.

Portrait Options

I take commissions in charcoal, pastels, or colored pencils. Please have a look at the pricing charts, which include sizing options based on the number of pets per portrait. My specialty is colored pencil, but I also love working in pastels and charcoal.

Colored Pencil

My specialty medium. Colored pencil allows for precise detail and is the best option for highly detailed drawings. The price includes a portrait against a white background. If you would like a background included, I can give you a custom quote.

Pastels

The best budget option for those of you wanting a color portrait. Pastel drawings aren’t as highly detailed as colored pencil, but this option has a blurred out background included in the price.

Charcoal/Grayscale

Classic black and white! Portrait includes a blurred out background. This option is best for those of you on a budget or who just prefer a black and white portrait.
